A little bit about Fury:
Established in 2018, St. Margaret’s Bay Fury was created by Shane Mailman and Faye Kiss (of the SLAM Basketball organization), both of whom have children that wanted to continue a high level of basketball play over the summer months when most other teams are not practicing, both who have children who have played at the Provincial and high school Varsity level.
The mandate of Fury is to provide confidence, skill development and fun to players wishing to maintain and improve their basketball skills over the summer season. Many past Fury players have gone on to play on the provincial BNS teams, as well as their junior and high school teams. One of our goals is to bring players from other clubs together to play highly competitive basketball and make long lasting friendships.
Fury offers teams from U12- U18 for both girls and boys, we currently have in place U12, U13, U14 and a higher age group U16 Girls coaches in place. We also have U12, U13, U14, U15, U17, U18 boys coaches in place. Every year Fury has grown in teams, and unless a player has gone on to the Provincial team or the elite Thunder group, all of our players have returned, a fact that we are very proud of.
Cost and Fundraising
The total cost to play Fury has not yet been finalized, however each player will incur fees for:
Gym time (expected to be approximately $275). Practices will be two times per week beginning in April (right after Provincials) and running until the end of July.
Uniforms, gear and player insurance (estimated at approximately $150). Players will get to keep their uniforms and gear.
Team start up costs - to register for the first couple of tournaments - (approximately $100)
It is also expected that each player will incur fees for tournaments, exhibition games and any travel costs associated with those. Additionally, the team will be expected to cover the costs of the coaches for these tournaments and games. The coaches’ costs will be divided by all players, regardless of whether they attend the game or tournament in question.
Players will be encouraged to help fundraise toward their costs. This helps ease the team’s costs as well as strengthening team bonds.
Fundraising can start as soon as is the team is announced.
Fury has some fundraising programs in place to help you offset travel costs. The objective would be for Fury to be as affordable as possible.
Games and Tournaments
Tournaments are being researched right now for the upcoming season. As well we will have exhibition games against BNS, Thunder, Mega, Dartmouth Impact Selects, and any other clubs than may form. In prior year girls went to St. John, Moncton, Quebec and several local tournaments. We are hoping to also get in the Maine Gold Rush tournament
